BQGreen will bring about a myriad of community benefits for the community, including:
- Improving pedestrian and bike safety
- Increasing real estate values
- Improving retail sales
- Addressing gang violence by eliminating territorial landmarks
- Enhancing the local economy, creating construction jobs
Not only will BQGreen address environmental justice issues and increase park space, it will be economically beneficial to the Southside and New York City as a whole. BQGreen will also improve the lives of the children of the Southside by making their commute healthier and safer. Students at P.S. 17, M.S. 50 and the Brooklyn Arbor School are exposed to harmful air pollutants and must navigate dangerous intersections when they travel across the bridges and through the intersections near BQE while traveling to and from school.
